Police arrest man wanted in Rockville homicide

Officers on Thursday arrested a Gaithersburg man wanted in a Rockville homicide, Montgomery County Police said.

Montgomery County Police assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Shayan Solimani Damabi, 21, into custody after he left a Gaithersburg motel, police said in a Thursday night statement.

Solimani Damabi is accused of fatally shooting 33-year-old Nicholas Njuki about 2 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Quincy’s Potomac Bar & Grille at the Potomac Woods Plaza in the 1000 block of Seven Locks Road.

The shooting was captured on video, according to court records.

Prior to the shooting, Solimani Damabi and a companion physically fought Njuki inside the bar. Quincy’s security then escorted Solimani Damabi and his companion to the front door. Njuki exited from the back.

In the parking lot, Njuki entered a companion’s vehicle and Solimani Damabi got into an Acura sedan. Both vehicles left the parking lot at about the same time and stopped near the 1100 block of Fortune Terrace near Northside Park Boulevard.

That’s when Njuki, on foot, approached the driver’s side of the Acura, court records said.

Njuki’s companion told police that he drove past the Acura after he saw Njuki get shot. More shots were fired, and Njuki’s companion’s vehicle was struck on the passenger side, according to court records.

After the shooting, the man who arrived at the bar with Solimani Damabi entered the Acura before it drove away, court records said.

Detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Solimani Damabi with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

He is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
